In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, there’s a scene where Gandalf is leaving Frodo, expecting to be gone for some time. As he turns to walk out the door on his mysterious journey he gives a few farewell-words to Frodo that allude to his return,
“Expect me when you see me”
I still can’t figure out if I’m too dim-witted to grasp how profound he’s being… or too slow of heart to realize how light-hearted and playful he is. Maybe a bit of both.
